You may have heard the saying “What’s yours is mine and what’s mine is yours” or its humorous counterpart “What’s yours is mine and what’s mine is mine” when it comes to marriage and long-term relationships. Which do you prefer? A shared ownership or control all to yourself?
In this article, Mark D. White, Ph.D., of Psychology Today, argues that we don’t need to lose our sense of self to be in a committed relationship. He states “…you can become part of a greater whole while still remaining your own unique self, making an authentic choice to join your life with another person but not disappearing in the process.”
