Stress & Anxiety

Do you have stress or anxiety? Though related by symptoms, these two terms are very different from each other and are often confused.
ANXIETY IS VERY COMMON.

Stress is experienced by most of us. Usually it’s an appropriate reaction to difficult conditions and is often short-lived. There may be minor physical symptoms but typically stress is a psychological problem. Irritability and agitation are normal. Family problems, money issues and health problems can all cause stress.

We encourage you to meet with us to identify coping solutions.

STRESS is a common and universal experience for most people at some time in their life. It’s a normal and appropriate reaction to life issues or a specific difficult situation and/or problems and is often short-lived and intense. You may have some minor physical reactions but typically stress is a psychological problem rather than a physical one. Irritability and agitation are symptoms of stress. Trauma, military or police occupations, family problems, financial issues, and health problems can all cause stress disorders.
Everyone feels “stressed” at some point but professional help may or may not be called for; however, we do encourage you to make an appointment with us to identify coping solutions.

ANXIETY is a physical and emotional problem that affects most people.

ANXIETY (or Generalized Anxiety Disorder) is defined as both extreme worry and physical symptoms. You may experience light-headedness, upset stomach, headache, vomiting, nausea, shaking, sweating, agitation, dread, negative expectations, fear, tension or fatigue. Anxiety can be related to intimacy, strangers, test-taking, public speaking, social situations, job expectations, money problems, health issues, decision-making or fear.

Severe anxiety can impair your functioning and cause medical issues. If not addressed, a real anxiety disorder can result. Other forms of anxiety are Social Anxiety and Panic Disorder. Anti-anxiety medication is often required.
