In counseling, clients come to me sometimes very sad or anxious. In our discussions, I alway ask if there is something happening or an anniversary of some kind. And then it comes up “The Anniversary Malady”.
Joyce Maynard, an author, puts it very well in her conclusion of her own journey through grief and anniversaries “And I’m left with this: That everything we had and everything that happened remains. But a grieving person cannot make her life on memories. All that’s left to do, for the one still standing, is to put that book on the shelf. And carry its lessons wherever life takes her.”
